I was in this area this weekend and noticed the same problem. There is even a 'parking' sign pointing drivers to go the wrong way down a one way street. As the first reporter mentioned, there were signs to watch for pedestrians, but they were small, non reflective and honestly looked like advertisement for the City and not warning signs. Hope they get this fixed soon.

I was in the area this Saturday with the firework show and while it was blocked off and no traffic could go through I saw what they are talking about. They put up what looks like advertisment signs for the city on West Spring Street with small words that warn you to watch for people. But they are hard to see and not the normal signs that people are looking for. Hope someone doesn't get hit out there. By the way the fireworks were awesome.

The City Engineer reviewed and has recommended to install two mounted signs in the center of the roadway on each crosswalk from City Hall to the Market Village alerting traffic about pedestrians crossing. Currently there are 4 signs within the downtown Market Village cautioning the same to motorists.

What about the crosswalks inside Market Village, such as Atkins to fountain and fountain to Zucca?

Just because the City says they are going to fix it, doesn't mean this issue should be closed until they do. The story on the news was nice, but it and this only mentions the cross walk at City Hall. What about the ones up front that the drunks stumble into every night? Are they fixing those as well. I will consider it closed once the signs are on the poles or in the ground.

The signs in front of City Hall look great, I saw them last night. i'm just suprised it took this long. However, the four signs in Market Village aren't reflective, are not standard DOT signs and aren't at the cross walks. The speed of traffic in Market Village isn't controlled by the raised walkway, because cars don't pay any attention to that, much less the people walking in them. Again, the ones in the front of City Hall are perfect and if the City would but those in Market Village as well instead of an ad for the City then it would be perfect. However, based on the comment that they won't be, I guess they will be waiting on someone to get hit. I hope I'm there to inform the victim of the fact that it was complained about.

The issue is only have fixed and the City said they aren't adding real signs, means the issue isn't closed, just that the City is ignorning it.

I was in the area last night and saw this. The "elevated walkway" doesn't control anything at night. The cars were zooming in the area and the people on those "walkways" were having to fend for themselves. I can't believe the City doesn't care enough to put up real signs. I'll be staying out of the area and taking my $$$ to West Village until this issue is fixed.

There are four signs in the Market Village, however they are not reflective and the elevated walkway does not deter the speed of traffic at night. No one sees the raised walkway until they drive over it and then it's too late. If the City would put the same type of signs up in Market Village as they did in front of City Hall this issue would be solved. Just ask the police, who say they can't write citations because of the lack of signs.

In addition motorists within these streets tend to move slower looking for parking spaces or just looking to see what is in the Market Village. The street elevations at the various locations within the downtown area also assist with the slow traffic movement, not only making them aware of the pedestrian traffic but als avoiding damage to their car if they are moving too fast over these elevations.

Issue was addressed four months ago.

Apparently the City thinks they can close the issue just because they aren't going to fix it. It's also apparent that they don't care about people out there at night. When the businesses close and just the bars are open, no one can see those non reflective signs and the people walking in the raised but unmarked crosswalks are in danger, because people do not drive slowly. This is still dangerous and doesn't mean the national recommendations for traffic markings. I'm half tempted to walk until I get hit so I prove them wrong, but at the same time half tempted not to spend my money in Smyrna. Coin toss.

The crosswalk in front of City Hall looks great, but the crosswalks inside the Market Village in front of Zucca and Atkins are dangerous at night because there are no signs. Police still say it's hard to enforce because of poor signage and stumbling drunks. Guess they will wait until someone gets hurts.

The raised crosswalks at Zucca's and Atkins Park prevent traffic from "flying thru" the Market Village. In addition, the traffic of people and cars going and coming is also a traffic calmer on its own.

Perhaps a consideration would be to organize a voluteer downtown Market Village Safety Group for the purpose of prevention addressing your concern of someone getting hurt.

The raised crosswalk MIGHT and I stress might, prevent traffic from "fyling thru" during the day, but it does nothing at night since you can't see them. People park their cars on them to unload equipment and leave them unattended because they think they are just large speed humps as they are very similar. Instead of a volunteer group maybe the City should just add the signs like they did in front of City Hall and the problem is solved. Plus then the police could enforce the issue.

The City added a new sign and put them on real poles instead of wooden poles, but they are "City" signs and not "DOT" signs so they are non reflective and hard to see.

Sometime in the past few weeks the City has added some real DOT warning signs. They placed the at two of the four crosswalks in Market Village and at the crosswalks near the library and community center. It's been five years but it's almost perfect!

Would be good to have speed breakers too. With all the parallel parked cars, it’s hard for drivers to see people entering the cross walks. We have had to stop suddenly multiple times as both pedestrians and drivers because it’s hard to see
