Description

Spring City is a great town but it's getting more and more quiet. There needs to be action taken to bring in new business and increase parking for customers.

Look at Phoenixville. They have had a few resturants come in that really brought more people to the town. there also needs to be effort put into attracting more of the young 20s. Large festivals would be a good start for this but long term there needs to be more rental units and a more attractive environment.

I understand you want new businesses in your town but becareful of what you wish for with wanting more rental units. We have so many of them on my street and too many in my town. Most (not all) of the rentals in Pottstown are drug dealers/users and Section 8. This is one of the reasons why we are paying high school taxes. For example, we have an apartment building that has four apartments. Out of four we have one apartment that pays taxes. the other three are on Welfare and Section 8. Who do you think is paying for their children to go to school? Yes, the landlord is paying school taxes for his property but there are four families living there. I think the law should change to every apartment should pay school taxes but I don't see this happening any time soon.

Spring City needs to take action. I just read today that they have a new complex going in with 80,000 SF of office space 275 rental units and a 5 story parking deck. Spring City needs to start looking for those willing to invest and bring business to the community.

I agree section 8 is a problem, but there still needs to be steps taken. Spring City is heading in the wrong direction and change is needed. If they have to offer tax breaks to bring in business so be it but something needs to happen.

before spring city worries about bringing people to town they should worry about the people that walk their dogs on main st. and don't clean up after them.

Ticket the dog walkers. Have police do more foot patrol and start a bike patrol. I live in Spring City adn would gladly work as an officer doing foot or bike patrol. I think it's great to encourage interaction and make there presense more known.

Spring city needs a confluence of leadership, motivation, power, creativity, authority, and a single purpose. There are answers, but people need to organize, and demonstate a willingness to act and cooperate. Parking should have been considered when planning the Main/Bridge street improvements. Additional rental units would add to the parking problem, and they don't bring in revenue. And we need more revenue to improve infrastructure, which means increasing taxes and applying for grants. We need a plan for now, but more importantly we need a plan for the future. If one exists, it's not shared.

I believe we need to start with a single concept: Identity. We can't grow into what we want to be if we have no idea what that is. Once we decide who we want to be, and how we can use our existing (or acquired) resources, the community can organize festivals around the identity, the businesses can build around it, and we can elect a council that will further the effort. Personally I think that "Artist Community" works well given the citizenry, and existing businesses.

Thank you for your imput. Very well stated and acurate. I disagree though on the rental units. I'm a landlord in Spring City and live within a 2 minute walk of Main street. Where I am I have no parking problems. There is room for at least 12 more cars. I also have a garagebut rent out a bay. Well the parking issue real, not all rental properties would add to it.

I do fault you on claiming that rental units do not bring revenue. I wish that was true because that would be about $3,000 staying in my pocket. I pay taxes on the property, trash service, Water, and other utilities. I also pay a fee to spring city for each unit.
