Thank you Mr. Reynolds for your questions regarding side street and driveway radii and your concern of debris on paved shoulders. I explained that for uncurbed side streets and driveways, constructing smaller radii serves to slow an automobile through the turn in a way keeping it safer for bicyclists and pedestrians using paved and dirt shoulders.
I explained that for the section along 1st Avenue between Orange Grove Road and Ina Road, it appears may be part of an RTA improvement project and that minimizing debris and designing side street radii to slow traffic down will be part of the design criteria for the project. It's expected that some curbing will be part of the design which will help keep debris to a minimum. We'll pay close attention to uncurbed sections and design in a way to minimize debris on roads and paved shoulders by attempting to fit in a design that includes a roadside ditch in cut areas to keep drainage and debris off the road.
Mr. Reynolds understood there are many roads in Pima County in this situation and there are insufficient funds to correct them all. However, Pima County will respond to requests to clear debris that accumulates on the paved shoulders.
