wasnt there a risk of the dam breaking during irene? This could be the first step in repairing it.
I do know for a fact that this was mentioned by Ed Truitt of Delaware County Emergency Management of failing in an interview he gave on 6ABC

Earles Lake is slated to permanently disappear. The lake is being drained in the first phase and then the dam will be breached. We don't know what will happen to the current area where the lake is currently and what are the expected environmental and flood impacts. In fact my first posting still stands 30 days later, we still have NOT been informed of any environmental or flood impact studies and if any their results. Green Countrie Village and Earles Lake associations have refused our request for information. Many organizations are involved but do not communicate among them and definitively not to us the neighbors down the lake.
During Irene, a sink hole developed on the top of the dam (earth filled dam). Small but nonetheless a concern. You would expect that we would be informed of any upcoming repairs since we live right by the dam, but no! nothing since.

If you happen to know someone who is working in the area of environment or land use in Newtown township please forward my concerns regarding the impact of draining Earles lake. Thank you

I am sick about the possibility of loosing this lovely lake! I wonder if there isn't any one who knows of a historical significance that can save this beautiful lake that has been around for over 40 years!
