Dear Property Owner,

I personally disposed of this dead raccoon on Friday, 2/9/24 just before 5 PM, as promised.
A couple of things to note: (a) Based on the physical state of the raccoon (i.e., no evidence of physical trauma), it appears the animal was poisoned, which I believe is an illegal method for raccoon removal in New Haven. I'm looking now for a local expert to help determine if this was indeed an intentional poisoning.
(b) When raccoons die from poisoning, they don't typically end up splayed out on a brick walkway; they usually hide and die outside of view (under porches, etc.). This--and some evidence I found around the animal--suggests that this raccoon may have been moved to its prominent location on my walkway.
Camera footage in the area may be able to confirm how this animal wound up where it did. I am closing this issue, but I will reopen it if this raises questions of intentional poisoning of animals in the neighborhood.
