Description

I purchased my house in the 4000 block of Bayo Street in Oakland 16-years ago and I have been writing constantly to have my street resurfaced. The potholes and the condition of the street are awful. What will it take for the City of Oakland to come out and resurface Bayo Street? For the past month the City of Oakland was working on a water issue on the corner of Bayo Street & 39th Avenue and because of the work, the street is worst. Please send a crew out to resurface the entire street of Bayo not fill the potholes; there are too many potholes to fill. I am embarrassed by the street I live on and not to mention the damage it is doing to my tire alignment.

The City of Oakland Public Works Department has received this issue. It is registered as service request #579952. Thank you, in advance, for your patience as we work through a backlog of pothole service requests. Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

Keep calling/emailing. Don't give up, but don't plan on waiting in line for the Dept. of Public Works to finally get around to you. You need your rep. to be involved.

Finally, Public Works is starting to fill the potholes on Bayo Street, the problem now is they ignored the 3800 block of Bayo Street completely and they filled only half the potholes in the 4100 block of Bayo. A barricade has been placed in the huge pothole at 3945 – 39th Avenue and it is going on week number three since the sinking pothole was place on Public Works’ radar. I wonder how long it will take them to repair that portion of the street.
