Description
There needs to be 4 way stop sign on Mariposa and Fleming Ave. There are stop signs on Fleming (east and west) but none on Mariposa. We need to drive past the crosswalk to see if a car is coming up Mariposa which can cause an accident. No good vision on Fleming and Mariposa either direction to safely cross the street. On one side of Mariposa there are trees and the other side there is a shrub and big stone item depicting the name of the are which is Minnahan. Meadows. Please add stops signs on both sides of Mariposa...making it a 4 way stop. Thank you.

Traffic Engineering has completed the investigation for an all-way stop sign and the intersection did not meet the state/federal criteria. The traffic volumes ranged from 11-27% of the volume required, there have been no reported collisions in the past 5.5 years.
Staff will send letters to the property owners on the nw and ne corners to have their landscaping trimmed to the proper height at the corner.
The method of checking for pedestrians and then moving forward past the crosswalk is the proper way to proceed when at a stop sign. A driver should move forward to insure it is clear before proceeding into the intersection (clearing pedestrians first.).

The city of Vallejo like most cities in California use the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CCA MUTCD) as its guide to place signs. The installation of an all-way stop sign must meet certain criteria in regards to traffic volumes, reported collisions, etc.
The volume criteria is 300 vehicles on the major street (Mariposa) per hour for 8 hours. The highest hourly volume was counted at 81 vehicles.
The volume criteria is 200 vehicles on the minor street (Fleming) per hour for the same 8 hours. The highest hourly volume was counted at 37 vehicles.
If the volumes were closer to the 300 and 200 per hour, then I would recommend recounting the intersection when school is back in session. Based upon the count taken, it would take an increase of 3 to 6 times to meet the volume criteria.
The CA MUTCD criteria for reported collisions is 5 in a 12 month period that are correctable by the installation of the all-way stop sign.
