Description

Prospect and Edwards traffic light/pedestrian signal: The audible signal for the visually impaired is stuck in the "ON" (beeping) mode. It's been going on for hours. Not only is this unsafe for the visually impaired, it's unbearable to listen to it.

This is not stuck. The beeping exists so that visually impaired people can locate the pedestrian signal. This particular signal is under contract at the moment. The signal crew will be inspecting it's functionality today. If the audible sound can be turned down, the signal crew will contact the contractor, but under ADA requirements, the audible level needs to be at a certain volume in order for someone to hear it from a certain distance. It was stuck yesterday--beeping non-stop, regardless of the light. Here's hoping the signal crew inspects it carefully. Of course it has to be audible. But it's not working at all for anyone (particularly those who most need it) if it's constantly on. (Or off.) Turning it down would be a huge help--there's no need for it to be audible across the street and several floors up.
