This is an insulting response to this issue. "Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner."
What a JOKE! That is, if the mayor and her consorts can give developers tax breaks to build in the city, then they need to figure out how to support the city's citizens. The people who live in Oakland, pay property taxes, etc. The mayor is worried about the Raiders and the Warriors leaving and about building lots of market rate housing but nothing for the people who live here. I have been complaining about potholes for a very long time. The CITY GOVERNMENT DOES NOT CARE! A response such as that above only exacerbates the issue. That is, it makes it worse not better because it shows the city really doesn't care. How about if I refuse to pay my property taxes "because I just don't have the resources to do it." What would happen then? $345 million. How much has the mayor given in tax breaks to builders and sports teams that are leaving anyway?
