Description
At this busy 4-way intersection, there are only crosswalks on the North and West sides. We need crosswalks on the South and East sides. For foot traffic coming north on baxter, you have to backtrack a third of a mile to find a crosswalk - it takes 15 minutes to legally cross the street there!

Seems that a crosswalk in front of Cave Hill National Cemetery would be a good idea.
You have to walk > .5 miles to cross legally from the top tip of where Baxter and Cherokee meet, to get to Cave Hill.

Reply about issue from Public Works in June 2015:
"Louisville Metro Public Works has completed our investigation for consideration of installing crosswalk markings across Cherokee Rd at Cave Hill Rd. The engineering study included a field inspection, and four year review of accident history. During the field review, it was recognized that Cherokee Rd is 33’ wide, provides (3) travel lanes and is uncontrolled at this location. Additionally, it was noted that sight distance along Cherokee Rd is limited due to the intersection being located in a horizontal curve. The analysis of accident history resulted in 4 total accidents that occurred along Cherokee Rd between Baxter Ave & Cave Hill Rd each of which occurring in a different manner.
Normally, crosswalks are "marked" at places where there is an abundance of pedestrian demand, at a signal or stop controlled approach and where pedestrians cannot recognize a proper place to cross. However, if "marked" crosswalks are not frequently used by pedestrians, then drivers tend to forget that they exist. As a result, accidents can occur when pedestrians rely on crosswalks to provide them with a safe barrier from traffic.
National studies have shown that marked crosswalks may actually increase the risk to pedestrians crossing the street. In these studies, it was found that pedestrians are given a false sense of security at "marked" crosswalks, and tend to blindly cross the street, trusting the crosswalk to keep them out of harm's way. As such, it is important that pedestrians remain attentive and cautious of on-coming vehicles on a roadway before crossing a street, regardless of the presence, or lack of, a crosswalk.
Because of the reasons listed above, installing crosswalk markings at this location is not recommended by Louisville Metro Public Works. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to discuss this matter further."
