A dumpster is a good idea with bad consequences. Unfortunately it creates an expectation that the area is okay to dump at. I've unfortunately learned this from renting a dumpster. It arrived the day before I had some work done and was half full before the work even started... At my own expense. Please, for the sake of humanity, help stop all this dumping.
It’s so hard to catch people in the act of dumping. There must be an idea out there to stop this part of Vallejo from becoming a “new dump”. In the state of Nevada they have two days a week that there Sanitation workers (Trash collectors) pick up. One is for your cans you put out and the other is for anything else you want to get rid of. From couches to refrigerators. This being adopted by our state could possibly help. I just don’t have a solutions for those who believe it’s ok to throw you junk anywhere.
Vallejo has large item pickup. All you have to do is call and 2 pickups per year are included in your trash fees. They even have dumpster rental once a year for low income FREE. The problem here is fear, ignorance, cheap landlords and lazy police. Some landlords don't pay the garbage fees for their tenants, who then dump. Some people are afraid to ask the city for services and some people don't even know how much the city gives for free. Vallejo offers a lot to anyone willing to ask. Unfortunately the PD is unwilling to do anything to help, and without consequences this will go on forever.
That 2 pickups per year through the garbage company has many restrictions. It’s not “a free day” to dump whatever you need too. Unless they recently change their strict rules.
Sure there are restrictions, but most of the garbage on 5th fits within recologys rules. Recently had them pick-up a couch. Yeah it's not perfect, but it's an option better than dumping
