Such a shame. People suck. It's just a $10 chair. I think people just take things because they can. Lame.

Did you put a note with the chairs? People might have thought that the chairs were abandoned, or given away for free (after all, people leave furniture on the curb all the time). Somebody might have thought they were doing the neighborhood a favor by removing "trash" from a shoveled parking spot.

One can't reserve parking spaces. Its public parking. Its tough, but that's life in the big city.

Ive seen people do that... put things in the place of the spot they spent quite a while shoveling out. Especially after the blizzard last year.

Public parking spaces cannot be reserved despite your efforts in clearing snow from them. It is possible that someone thought you were putting the chairs out for anyone to take. Although this is also not permitted in the city, this practice does occur. Since it is winter and beach chairs are out of season, I could see someone making the incorrect assumption that they were placed there as a give-away for anyone to take.

On-street public parking cannot be reserved in this manner. A permit can be obtained through city approval to reserve space but only for a specific reason and only for a finite length of time, such as if work was going to be done on a house you needed space for a dumpster.

While I am aware that putting lawn chairs in a parking spot dug out of the snow is not an officially sanctioned reservation I was hoping by reporting it we might either get the chairs back or raise the conciousness of neighbors about shoveling more. I thought that there was a remote chance that whoever took the chairs would read the post and return them or a neighbor who watched them being taken would pass along some information. It was also partly a rant on behalf of my wife who dug out four or five spots, tried to save one, and had our chairs stolen. If we need to dig out another spot every time we move the car it means that other people are not doing their share of shoveling. If we all shovel in front of our houses the entire block would be clear and there would be enough parking spaces. Thanks for listening.
