Trimming the tree back to ensure you can see the actual stop sign would also be helpful.

Speed bumps!

East Street from MLK to the Transfer Co. Food Hall is definitely a drag strip. Cars speed, run stop signs and make excessive noise at all hours of the day and night on East Street. Better enforcement is needed!

I live on East street and am here all day. While it can get busy, I would hardly call it a drag strip. We live downtown. You've got to expect traffic, noise and everything else that comes with urban living. I seriously doubt RPD has nothing better to do than worry about cars on East street.

I have lived in much larger cities than Raleigh all of my life. This isn’t a “oh I live downtown and there’s noise” issue. It is a public safety issue, and YES, cars fly down East Street and run stop signs with alarming regularity. It is also not a complaint about traffic. The traffic is Raleigh is nothing compared to northeastern cities. It is a complaint about speeding, running stop signs, and cars modified to make excessive noise.

I heat what you are saying but who do you think will pay the price if we get increased enforcement of speeding and equipment violations? It's going to be the guy that can't afford to repair the hole in his muffler or the mother that's racing home to pick up her child from day care so she can carry her over to her mother's so she can make it to her 2nd job on time. And while they are pulled over for speeding or a loud car, they are at risk if they are a person of color. A speeding ticket to many might be a nuisance but when you are poor it means potential long term involvement in the legal system. I'm willing to live with some loud cars and people who sometimes don't come to a complete stop. I love to hear the variety of music played loudly from cars and the folks that ride wheelies in unison on their sport bikes are all kinds of entertainment. We have big problems with affordable housing and displacement of people and cultures.not to mention the homicide earlier this year and the recent shootings. That's the conversation we need to be having IMO.

We have counted more than 10 cars running the stop sign, at S East St and E South St, at high speed in a 5 minute period after work hours. It is only a matter of time before a pedestrian is hit. While we appreciate the sign going up to slow the bulk of the traffic, the city needs to take a second look to implement solutions that would to decrease the number of drive throughs.

This is a public safety issue with individuals not following the speed limit in almost ALL of downtown. Person & Blount are particular bad as well; south of MLK. Clearly RPD doesn't care nor want to address it. We received a speed study with cars going up to 70 MPH yet the city doesn't care to do anything about it.
