Hopefully what will be done is NOT to simply "sweep" people from place to place, or trash their belongings, but rather remove the government-created obstacles to building and providing housing, so that fewer people will be experiencing homelessness.
The mass homelessness we see in urban areas today did not exist half a century ago. It is the result of decades of failed land use policies and regulations that violate people's property rights and make it difficult and expensive if not impossible to build new housing units, or disincentivize people from putting rental units on the market.
Definitely SOMETHING should be done, but hassling and disrupting the already unpleasant lives of people trying to get by living on the streets isn't it.
while I agree with many of your points, homelessness isnt solely a housing problem. It's interesting that you mention people property rights but fail to point out that they are also violating property rights, those of the Shell station that are required to maintain the sidewalks and those of the Lyft's bike rental program. Rules and regulations should not be enforced piecemeal.
David – Which individuals are you talking about when you say "they" are violating property rights, and which specific property rights do you believe "they" are violating?
Your references to the Shell station's owners being required to maintain the sidewalks (are they required to maintain public sidewalks that do not belong to them? If so, I think THAT is a violation of their rights) and to Lyft's bike rental program are not clear to me.
