Description
At the minimum, 4-way stop signs are needed at this intersection. At the maximum, signal lights. Most cost effective and adequately efficient would be the 4-way signs which would lessen the chance of a traffic accident at this point. There is major cross traffic on Sherman at commute times and the visuality is definitely compromised crossing Santa Clara.

Hello City of Alameda,
This is your last post: Thank you for your request regarding street signs, it has been received as #17-09-0065. If your request is regarding the replacement of an existing sign that has been damaged or is missing, Public Works will respond within 1-2 weeks. Given a lack of staffing, your request is responded to in the order received, unless there is an urgent safety issue. We appreciate your patience.

Now, I live two three houses down from this intersection and we DO need 4 stop signs at Santa Clara and Sherman. There are currently stop signs on Sherman and a crosswalk on Santa Clara that can get scary with drivers speeding up.
We are requesting that stop signs are placed on Santa Clara as well. A couple of facts make this intersection unique and very dangerous. Please see below:
- A lot traffic entering and leaving Alameda comes down Sherman via the tube. There are SO MANY close calls that I am surprised nobody has been killed there yet.
- Santa Clara Avenue is the road many students and groups of students take to go to middle schools such as Jr. Jets, AoA, Nea, and ACLC.
- This road is also utilized by commuters going to the ferry.
With the above stated, now the question for you City of Alameda is, what do we need to do next to get 4 stop signs on that intersection? Signatures? An inspection from the city? If so, how do we request it?
I truly hope the city will not wait for a tragedy to happen to look into this intersection and install the much needed stop signs.
Thank you Anna for getting the ball rolling with this!
Sincerely,
Tatiana Stollman

AWESOME! I got the letter from Public Works just this past Friday! Yay! Thank you for listening! This past week twice I witnessed two different cars ignoring the stop sign on Sherman and almost running over some bikers coming on Santa Clara. I am sending my feedback via email as requested in the letter from Alan Ta.
Since you are already doing the study, would a traffic light be an option? Traffic can be so heavy on that intersection... Just putting out there.
What a relief! Thank you again!

At a minimum you need to red paint the corner curbs so the cross traffic can SEE the traffic on Santa Clara. I've lived on SC for 20 years and this corner is blind when people park (esp. trucks) on Sherman or SC right near the corner.
People blowing through street signs are breaking the law already. Most likely island newcomers who tend to be entitled. Stop signs on SC won't fix that problem. Traffic cameras like San Leandro is needed to stop those people.
