The overall traffic plan and design need to be re-assessed since the redesign of street.

Please make the crosswalks on Shoreline safer. Visablity for cars and peds has been greatly reduced since the redesign. Blinking lights near the post office and mall would be especially appreciated.

We need more blinking lights at more intersections throughout the City, especially those by the beach that get heavy pedestrian use and those that are along designated Safe Routes to School!

Requests for many transportation issues, including stop signs, curb painting, and traffic calming measures, typically require 8-12 weeks to complete before staff can develop a recommendation. These requests involve review of current plans and policies, compilation of accident and/or other history, coordinating with Alameda Police and other stakeholders, outreach to residents or others who may be affected by the proposed change, on-site data collection and analysis, and sometimes consultation with outside experts.

I will follow up with you about your request when your request is at the top of the queue. Unfortunately, due to limited funding, there is a backlog of these requests and they are being handled in the order of receipt. Due to that backlog, some requests may take six months to a year to complete the analysis and recommendation.

Alan, you and I had a conversation several months ago, 8-12 weeks, about putting blinking lights at the intersection of Willow Street and Franciscan Street for the pedestrians, bike riders, and large families crossing that street coming from the mall, walking their children and dogs and the beach during daylight hours and evening hours. I fail to understand why it takes several pedestrians to get hit by a car before any action is taken. Please do not tell me it is a Public Works process, this comment simply means there is no real interest in making Alameda pedestrians safe. I have not received any communication about this request you are your staff since our conversation. Please provide me with a staff recommendation as I am a resident, taxpayer, stakeholder, and a concerned citizen. Charlotte Sullivan

We're now in the 8-12 MONTH range!

It goes both ways----as much as some drivers are safely following the rules; pedestrians need to adhere to these same principles...if you go FROGGER, you are putting yourself in harms way. I've seen countless times where pedestrians totally disregard traffic and go FROGGER...

Alameda needs to continuously have an ongoing safety campaign reminding pedestrians (residents and visitors to the city) and motorists (residents and visitors to the city)….you can't pin it on all motorists.....

The cheapest and quickest solution is to put speed bumps along Shoreline. Or stop signs/stop lights at every intersection. Unfortunately even with a stop sign at Grand & Shoreline, we had a fatal incident (Wilma Chan). Shoreline gets CRAZY during summer since everyone in 510 comes here to enjoy the beach. Its not safe.
