I live in one of the adjoining neighborhoods (Griers Fork) for the past 10 years and appalled by the lack of sidewalks for the three schools (Steele Creek Elementary, Kennedy Middle School, Olympic High School). The real oxymoron is there are sidewalks in our development that end at Brown-Grier Road and a crosswalk with walk/don't walk signal and NO SIDEWALK leading up to or at the schools! The other major concern is schools won't allow for students to walk to school (even though I did when I attended CMS many years ago) and with cost of transportation going ever higher, we BUS neighborhood children across the street - again kind of a slap against the must publicized "Walk to School Day" (http://www.wbtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=13275843). On numerous occasions, I see students taking risk of attempting to cross street and walk to schools along Brown Grier and Sandy Porter Roads, coming within inches of oncoming traffic. Where is all the Neighborhood Improvement Bonds we taxpayers approved being used, where we voted no to a new Arena and Mint Museum? Where is all the stimulus money for infrastructure improvements being wasted when a simple solution would be to build sidewalks for the intended purpose? Inquiring (and infuriated) taxpayers want to know! A fleecing of America investigation should/would be nice to expose this issue!

why hasn't this topic ever been brought up by WBTV - there was an incident where a cyclist was killed recently on Brown Grier road yet no one seems to respond to the issue at hand that there are no sidewalks for 3 public schools! I guess this will require some unfortunate incident of someone being killed to get the city/county government to act on building sidewalks!
