I live at The Mercer condominium complex in downtown Walnut Creek. We have a big problem with the homeless using a side entrance of our building as a parking lot for their shopping cars.
We checked the location provided in the request, and there were no carts present at 1655 N. Main. The ferns in the planting bed and the paint do not appear to match the brick and glass building at this address.
Hi Matthew! The app didn't provide the exact address. The shopping cars are located on Cole Avenue, on the corner of The Counter restaurant at 1699 North California Blvd. The shopping cars are almost next to the entrance of the garage for The Mercer. Let me know if you need additional information. Thank you.
Hi WC-Resident,
Yes, I am very concerned about the homeless shelter (Trinity) down the street from The Mercer. I am seriously thinking about moving out of downtown Walnut Creek, something I never thought I would do. It will be a shame to see this beautiful downtown, the pride of the East Bay, to start looking like some parts of San Francisco where my husband and I lived for a couple of years. It takes people like you and me to watch out for our neighborhood. But we also need for the City of Walnut Creek to pass ordinances for no pandhandling, no camping, no loitering in downtown Walnut Creek and for those ordinances to be enforced by residents and the city. We, the residents and businesses in downtown Walnut Creek pay dearly in taxes to be here.

The location with the carts has been forwarded to a shopping cart retrieval company.
With Court rulings from the 9th Circuit Court, such as Martin v City of Boise, the enforcement of laws concerning camping in public, etc. are not as easy as some people believe. You are welcome to attend City Council meetings and voice your views on panhandling, homelessness, loitering, etc. during the public comments portion of the meeting.
I know this site is not to bring up concerns with City Hall. BUT, the city council and the planning commission put their religious beliefs over the concerns of WC residents. I am also concerned with the numbers of homeless and urban campers coming to WC. From parks to creeks the city has refused to pass any ordinances. I’m also at a point where I wont let my kids play in civic park, walk alone in Alma Park and we stopped shopping at Traders Joe’s. Once Trinity homeless shelter opens up more people will come here to get services from this semi-private business.
