I have had issues crossing at MANY crosswalks in this city. I literally have to wave my arms up and down and point at the crosswalk sign before anyone will stop. On average it takes 4-8 cars passing me before anyone will stop. It is incredibly rude and dangerous. Not sure what can be done. Re-painting the decrepit crosswalks will help, but if people are accustomed to not stopping I'm not sure what we can do.
Oh Southwood drive people!!!!!!!. Your area is no more special than any other area of the city. Many areas need attention, but Southwood seems to receive the most complaints.
In calgary, they have pedestrian cross walks. These include a post with a light on it. It is essentially - a stop light/warning light. Drivers must stop for pedestrians, make sure no one else is crossing, and then they can proceed through the light with caution if no one else is crossing (and the light is still going)
The lights do not blink all the time, just when a pediestrian pushes the button for the lights to go off.
It is not all southwood people that are complaining. This corner is where the rotary trail crosses 6th east and people from all over the city may and do use it
i have almost been hit 20 up times here, drivers look at me like i m in the wrong, sorry but their is a reason that i give you guys the finger then point at the cross walk sign, its not just for fun !
First it is not only southwood residents that use this crosswalk it is for everyone as this crosswalk is also the rotary trail
Did you also know in Saskatchewan it will cost you 3 points for failing to yield to a pedestrian maybe the traffic division should setup and start dishing out a pile of tickets
I would like to mention that not only southwood residents use this crosswalk. The crosswalk mentioned is commonly used by people using the rotary trail.
Just like to also mention that it is 3 points for failing to yield the right of way to pedestrian may the PAPD traffic division should set up at some of these crosswalks
An STC bus sped up when it saw my husband and I waiting to cross at this intersection! I don't feel safe at any crossing in this city. What gives? Where are the PAPS traffic cops??? I made a complaint last year with a license plate number and did not hear anything from them. Does no one care? Kudos to everyone getting the exercise we all need, but please be safe!
On the rare occasion that someone does stop for me when I try to cross there, sometimes vehicles behind that person will just go around and pass them...grrrrr...or cars coming the other direction will just keep driving through, so the stopped vehicle becomes a traffic hazard itself. The police need to sit there a couple hours each day between 6-8 pm and hand out tickets to all the drivers ignoring the pedestrian. A pedestrian or cyclist's death or serious injury will be far too late and tragic.
It isn't just this location. Across from the TIm Hortons and Sturgeon Lake Complex on 5th Ave East is a fatal accident waiting to happen. The Office Complex is full to its capacity of Government employees and private sector employees who try to cross the road for coffee. NO ONE Stops because there is NO CROSSWALK. They actually speed up. SAD!
Thehotbreadguy I worry about that when I stop for pedestrians. I stopped for one last year and just befor she stepped out from in front of my car I noticed another car pulling around and passing mine so honked the horn to warn her. What if I hadn't noticed? Would she have noticed or would she have stepped out into an accident caused by some lamebrain who doesn't pay attention to whats going on. This happened at a well marked pedestrian crossing with the overhead lights flashing and lamebrain just acceleated past me as if I was holding up his day.
