Description
Approaching the intersection of Great Plain Ave and Greendale Ave from all four directions the road widens from one lane to two. The problem is that the right (curbside) lane in each of those four entrances to the intersection is not marked "Right Turn Only" either on the pavement and/or by a sign to that effect. The result is that cars in the right lane often proceed straight ahead through the intersection to the other side which results in two lanes of cars trying to get into the single lane on the other side, causing very hazardous merging. The other difficulty that results from the current traffic pattern is that cars trying to turn right on red get stuck behind cars in the second (right) lane waiting to go straight ahead when the light changes to green. If the short second lanes in each of the four directions into the intersection were clearly marked "Right Turn Only" both of these problems would be eliminated.
Thank you for your attention.

From discussing this issue with the Assistant Town Engineer he has looked at this intersection and has came to the conclusion that there is not enough width to mark out two lanes. This intersection is on the Capital Improvement Plan for reconstruction within the next five years. If you would like to discuss this issue further please contact the Engineering Division at 781-455-7550.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to look into this situation; I really appreciate it. I totally understand the problem with the current shortage of lane space, and as you say, this will hopefully be resolved when it is time for the intersection to come up for reconstruction.
