There are still folks running red lights. It's a well known fact. One good thing -- an officer has been placed at the Walgreens exit from the Air Rights Garage for the afternoon rush hour. That's a lifesaver, literally.
This still is happening. Even with the new light off the connector, people still go through the red light. 4 and 5 cars every single time. Is anyone ever going to arrest these clowsn?
The DOT widened the road and added the turn lane. Seems to make it easier to run reds now, since drivers now have 4 lanes they can run reds from instead of 3.
ditto -lol . Blowin thru red lights and completely ignoring stop signs everywhere ,constantly . But they stop for a cardboard cutout of a dummy crossing the street
The city is receiving a grant for funding to re-synchronize the lights. Hopefully this will help o regulate speeds and calm aggressive driving in this area.
Far too many people assume that every light in New Haven is "right on red" when there are signs to the contrary. New Haven should adopt a similar law as NYC which states that there is no turn on red in all of NYC unless a sign permitts you to do so.
About 10 cars went through this AM after the light had changed to red and the pedestrian light had gone on. The last one was an NHPD car. So much for help from the City!
Unfortunately, cameras for enforcement are not yet legal in Connecticut. If you would like to help, I would suggest writing testimony for the passage of red light cameras in Connecticut and email ctlivablestreet@gmail.com with your testimony.
On Monday, 2/14/2011 there will be a public hearing held in Hartford on the legalization of automated enforcement. This is something that has been proposed each of the past 5 years (and possibly longer), and with your testimony, it may just pass this year.
If you had time to testify, that would also be beneficial - but if you just had time to write a paragraph and email it in, I will make sure it's submitted at the bill hearing.
