Description
This is a very dangerous intersection. Traveling south from the Trumbull Mall or North from Brookside... the signals are totally opposite of what they should be. People in the left lane have the the option to turn left onto Old Town or proceed straight yet people either get in the right lane to avoid a delay if someone is turning left. A major accident is constant there... including myself many years ago when my car was totaled as I was cut off by a city bus. Please look into as the turn delay is too short.

The traffic signals are placed exactly where they should be based on MUTCD requirements.
The lane layout is based on existing traffic volumes. Reason for dedicated right turn lane along southbound Madison Avenue is heavy traffic volume to/from the mall traveling along Old Town Road to Park Avenue. Left turning traffic volume along southbound Madison Avenue is too low to justify exclusive left turn lane.
The green times assigned to each phase are balance to provide maximum capacity without compromising any individual movements. Assigning more green time to one phase or movement will negatively impact other movements at the intersection.
People that get into the right lane to go around left turning vehicle along the southbound approach are braking traffic law. It is drivers' responsibility to follow all regulatory signage and pavement markings.
